### Lesson Plan: Oral Counting and Identification of Numbers 0-170

**Topic:** Oral Counting/Identification of Numbers 0 - 170
**Objectives:**
1. Students will be able to count orally from 0 to 170.
2. Students will recognize and identify written numbers from 0 to 170.
**Materials Needed:**
- Number flashcards (0-170)
- Number chart (0-170)
- Counting songs
- Whiteboard and markers
- Small objects for counting (e.g., blocks, beads)
- Number line poster
### Introduction (5 minutes)
1. **Greeting:** Welcome the students warmly.
2. **Objective Introduction:** Briefly explain that today we will learn how to count from 0 to 170 and recognize these numbers.
Example: "Today, we’re going to learn how to count all the way up to 170! We’ll practice saying the numbers and looking at them.”
### Warm-Up Activity (5 minutes)
1. **Number Song:** Play a counting song that includes numbers up to 100. Songs such as "Count to 100 Song" by Jack Hartmann or similar. Encourage students to join in and sing along.
### Direct Instruction (10 minutes)
1. **Counting Together:**
- Start counting aloud from 0 to 30 with the entire class. Pause at 30 and give lots of encouragement and praise.
- Continue from 31 to 60, then take a short pause for encouragement.
- Proceed with 61-90, and finally 91-120, and then all the way up to 170.
- Use the number chart for visual guidance.
2. **Number Recognition:**
- Show the number flashcards randomly and ask the students to call out the numbers.
- Write a few numbers on the whiteboard and ask students to identify them.
### Guided Practice (5 minutes)
1. **Counting Objects:** Give each student a set of small objects (blocks, beads). Ask them to count the objects aloud while placing them in a row.
2. **Number Line Activity:**
- Place a large number line on the floor.
- Ask students to stand up and walk along the number line, calling out each number as they step on it.
### Independent Practice (3 minutes)
1. **Flashcard Recognition:**
- Distribute number flashcards to students.
- Call out numbers in random order and ask students with matching flashcards to stand up and show their card.
### Assessment (2 minutes)
1. **Interactive Quiz:**
- Point to numbers on the number chart and ask individual students to identify them.
- Listen to any counting mistakes and offer gentle correction and encouragement.
### Closing (3 minutes)
1. **Recap:** Briefly review today’s lesson. "Today, we practiced counting all the way to 170 and recognized lots of numbers!”
2. **Praise:** Congratulate the students on their effort.
